Decorating - Farm house and shabby chic

I really liked the bohemian style throughout college, but as I decorate my home, I am drawn to a more mature, trendy, famhouse, industrial-chic look.  Here are pictures of what this looks like in my house!

This is my fall room inspiration.  I get bored quickly, and like to change things up occasionally.  Thats why I picked whites and beiges, so I can change my sheets and pillows and other decor easily as trends and my style changes.

I actually made this headboard with my dad from an old gate I bought at an antique shop for $15.  We added those lights from home depot.

Here is an old bar cart turned into a record area.

LAMP DIY:

I bought an old, hideous red lamp shade from Goodwill from $3.  I also bought some fabric there. (did you know they had fabric swatches!?)  I tore and cut up the pieces of fabric into about 3 foot long strips.  I tied bows along the bottom and then I wrapped pieces on top and tied more bows.  I LOVE how it turned out.

This was a door I found for free in someone's trash pile.  I wasn't sure what to do with it, especially since it had a panel missing.  So, it sat for a while... then it sat some more.  Finally I got inspired to make it into a coat rack!  I added the knob and hooks from Hobby Lobby, and I directly hung the key hooks onto the wall.  The missing panel frames it so well.  I really like how it turned out.

13 Things to Know for Your Summer Road Trip

13 Things to Know for Your Summer Road Trip

1. Don't have a definitive schedule
Take the time to explore.  Stop when you see a pretty view.  Get out and watch the earth swallow the sun.  Pull over when you see something unique.  Take the time to get out and stretch.  Do handstands.
"Expectations make poor travel companions"

2. Go with great travel companions.
Make sure your travel buddies are like-minded.  Make sure they love the same music, enjoy coffee, are spontaneous, and no complainers allowed (this can quickly make the trip feel like an eternity).

3. Make iTunes and Spotify playlists
Jamming out to the right music while looking at a beautiful scenery with the windows cracked makes all the difference.  This can make moments feel infinite.

4. Don't eat at chain restaurants
Get a California burrito from that random hole in the wall taco shop.  Get unique foods that are local to the area.  In saying that, don't pass up some fries and a McDouble.  Just keep the drive thrus to a minimum when you can.

5. Download comedian podcasts
Seriously, listening to comedians in the car passes time and is so entertaining.
 (Also listen on Pandora)
When you start to get tired or restless, enjoy some long laughs from witty comedians - and being so slap happy makes it even funnier.

6. Leave early in the morning for the good parts
Its an amazing feeling to watch the sunrise and be up when it feels like no one else is.  You see things in a different way.  There is also very little traffic!

7. Always have gum, Chapstick, and SPF
Need I say more?  You'd be surprised how easy it is to get burnt when the suns beating in on your through the window!

8. Be aware of what time your hotel's lobby closes
Some hotels lobbies close early, so be aware if you are going to be arriving late.

9. Bring beach towels to cover car seats
Makes the seats less hot and is spill-proof.  They'll come in handy for random stops and picnics as well.

10. Make sure everyone in the car gets the app Venmo
Seriously, check out this app.  When everyone is splitting gas, confusing orders at a drive through, ran out of cash, or whatever the situation is, Venmo allows you to charge/pay each other right on your phone so you can easily keep track and it will automatically transfer funds.

11. Keep valuables in a safe and memorable place
Keep passports, cash, cameras, and everything in a safe place.  Its very easy to misplace things when you have a car filled with junk!

12. Get out and stretch
It feels good and is a great way to break up the redundancy of the car.

13. Don't forget car chargers, hand sanitizer, trash bags, granola bars
